Handball

Team competition for women and men. A team can consist of no more than 14 players. The participating teams will be divided into groups made up of 3 to 4 teams in the preliminary round. The playing time for each match is 2 x 15 minutes. The rules of the International Handball Federation (IHF) apply.

Competition format

The 7 teams in the “men’s open class” play a first round in one group of 4 and one group of 3 (each team plays all opponents in its group). The top two teams in each group qualify for the quarterfinals and then compete for the places 1 to 4. The third- and fourth-placed teams in each group compete for the places 5 to 7. The 8 teams in the “men’s over 40s” category play a first round in two groups of 4 (each team plays all opponents in its group). In the quarterfinals all teams will then be paired according to their ranking. All places will be played out. The 3 teams in the “women’s” category play a first round in one group of 3 (each team plays all opponents in its group). The next day the teams will play against each other again for the places 1 to 3.

Competition rules

In principle, the rules of the International Handball Federation (IHF) apply. There are no team time-outs; no time-outs in the event of suspensions and penalty throws; time-outs are only given when players are injured. Duration of suspension: 1 minute. Playing time for all groups is 2 x 15 minutes with a 5-minute half-time break.
The team captains are requested to report to the tournament director 30 minutes before their first match is set to begin. The list of the team members and their numbers must be filled in 30 minutes before the start of the match. All players are asked to wear shoes with non-marking soles. Teams are requested to have two sets of uniforms at hand. Resin is not allowed.

Scoring

The scoring within the group follows the points system (win 2 – draw 1 – loss 0 points). If two teams have the same number of points, the ranking is determined first by the match played against each other, then by the goal difference, then the number of goals scored, and lastly by drawing lots. In the event of a draw from the semifinals onwards, the winner is decided by “sudden victory” (next goal wins).
